IDK in Capitol Heights

I vividly remember walking my boo thang to her class while attending Prince Georges Community College. She was part of the SGA who was on the council members at the time. By her organization is responsible for the bulletin board, I asked about a flyer that was under a tac. The flyer was cut CD size and it looked like a mixtape. I looked closer, and the artist’s name said Jay I.D.K, and the title was titled “Sex, Drugs, and Homework”. Home Alone style, the flyer shows him slapping his face, Magnums over his eyes, with a capsule resting on his tongue. With astonishment, I asked my boo thang “Who is that?”. She quickly rambled about a guy who keeps stopping by tagging the school. By her dismissive response, I said oh that’s wassup and kept on walking her to class.

A few years go by and now I’m running social for the @dtlrlifestyle Instagram account. The MLB All-Star game was taken place in D.C., so New Era x DTLR came together to hold a “We Who Reign” with a performance by I.D.K. Stepping in with a Nationals cap, Blonde hair, lime green shirt, Black pants, and white platform sneakers, I.D.K. was ready to kill the stage (and he did). For the first time, I had an opportunity to meet him and see the star that people rock with heavy in P.G. County and beyond. He was full of energy but had it under control with reflected professionalism. From doing radio drops to taking pictures with fans, I felt like DMV music had a solid representative to make the area look and sound good.

Fast forward to now, he is worldwide and hasn’t forgotten where he has come from. He lives by this code by presenting the city of Capitol Heights a KKID family reunion and cookout at Oakcrest Community Center. With Go-Go being the native genre of music choice in the area, TCB, AMB, and New Impressions had the entire park crankin until sundown. A 5 on 5 tournaments was the main attraction, while I.D.K. received a State of Attorney citation from P.G. County to keep his customized basketball court funded for Project KKID. With his sophomore album, “USEE4YOURSELF” just dropping is showing he is still Ignorantly Delivering Knowledge (I.D.K.).

Check out his latest album and comment below what is your favorite track off of the first listen?

Writing is a craft that LaMon "Noy" Byrams developed at a young age, but never used it on a professional level. After interning at DTLR/VILLA, the company decided to acquire his literary talents to write compelling articles focused on their latest shoes and sneakers.
