Air Griffey Max 1 Returns in the "Varsity Royal" Colorway

Ken Griffey Jr. gave baseball what the game needed, a stylistic icon. No other player during Jr’s era had the same type of swagger like he did. Kids idolized him, players wanted to be him, Nike signed him, and fans (for the first time ever) wanted to wear a baseball player’s signature shoe. While Griffey hasn’t seen the field in years, he still carries a legacy with him much like the prolific retired NBA players that we idolize. To quote a famous baseball movie, “Heroes get remembered but legends never die”. Griffey fans are already standing in line to get the latest retro, the Air Griffey Max 1 in Varsity Royal.

With its thick midsole exposing several Air Max bubbles, bulky lace strap, and turf sole the Air Griffey Max 1 screams 90’s athletic turf shoe. The White and Varsity Royal toe box features a large Black Swoosh on the outside while Varsity Royal wraps around the inside. Varsity Royal Nubuck continues just above the midsole all the way down the side and wraps around the heal. White Leather follows in the same pattern and then Varsity Royal is used again for the lace area and pull-over strap. The pull-over strap features an embossed NIKE over the tongue and a White 24 with a Volt-colored Swoosh. As mentioned before, the Griffey Max 1’s sit atop a bulky White and Black midsole with exposed Air Max bubbles.

While Griffey hasn’t seen the field in over 10 years, his Air Griffey Max 1’s will still draw a crowd on release day. The Air Griffey Max 1’s in Varsity Royal are slated to release in a full-size run on Saturday, May 29th for $170. Stay tuned for more release and raffle information.
