Set to Drop: Air Jordan 1 OG CO.JP

It’s been nearly two decades since the original Air Jordan 1 OG CO.JP Retro released back in 2001. If my memory serves me right, the news about the 2001 pair broke the internet before breaking the internet was even a thing. The formula for hype was perfect; exclusive to Japan, extremely limited, individually numbered, and came with a briefcase instead of a traditional shoe box. The story here is almost the same except on top of the limited Japan release, Jordan Brand is doing a Worldwide release sans briefcase.

Behind The Design

The upcoming Air Jordan 1 OG CO.JP release is almost identical to the original retro release back in 2001 with just a few slight variations. The uppers feature Neutral Grey hues and are highlighted by the use of different materials and finishes. The side panels are smooth and subtle while the swoosh, toe box, and ankle flaps stand out in tumbled leather with a Metallic Silver finish. Moving up the tongue you’ll find the same Neutral Gray coloring as the side panels but in tumbled leather. The ankle collars add one more material selection to this beautiful shoe by using a Neutral Gray suede and unlike the Gold that was used on the 2001 release, this year’s pair features a Silver wings logo by the ankle instead. A Light Grey is used for the midsole and the same Neutral Grey found everywhere else on the shoe is once again chosen for the sole.

While the global release doesn’t come with a briefcase, this is still one special shoe. The chances that we’ll see another Air Jordan 1 OG CO.JP dressed in this same colorway are slim to none as like I mentioned before, it’s been close to twenty years since the first release.

The Air Jordan Retro 1 OG CO.JP “Tokyo” will be available this Friday, August 7, 2020, online at DTLR.com.
