Set To Drop: Women’s Air Jordan Retro 2 ‘Rivals’

There is no doubt that Michael Jordan is a competitor. During his time in the NBA, there are plenty of stories that confirm his winning drive and competitive spirit. For example, in 1997 when he dropped 38 points while sick as a dog with the flu. Or the fact that he’d walk by the visitor’s locker room smoking a cigar and asking the opposing team’s players, “Who’s going to check me tonight?” simply to get inside their heads. Finally, if you still need to be convinced, just ask him to show you his NBA championship rings. He’ll have to show you both hands as his six total rings won’t fit on just one. Of course, you can’t be as fierce of a competitor as Jordan without one thing. Rivals. Which, is the inspiration behind the latest colorway of the Women’s Air Jordan 2 Retro.

A lively mix of colors is used on this latest retro which pays respect to Jordan’s most notable NBA teams in his rival Rolodex. Featuring patent leather, suede, and pebbled leather, the pair doesn’t lack in material selections either. The patent leather toe caps are either green or red (Celtics and Blazers) which lead to an oversized pebbled leather toe box design that sport both orange and yellow (Knicks and Lakers). As you make your way back to the suede overlays, you’ll find the same Lakers nod on one foot and Knicks on the other, but in purple and blue. In the same colors as the toe caps, the outside ankles show off a flashy quilted-like stitched pattern while the insides sport a jersey mesh look. Heel supports in black rubber complete the look, and while I can’t confirm this, I personally like to think this is a nod to another strong Jordan rival, the NBA refs. Perforated leather is used on the tongues and again we find the Lakers and Knicks tribute with a purple tongue and yellow wings logo on one foot and bluetongue and orange logo on the opposite.

If you are looking for a vibrant punch to your sneaker rotation, these are a must-have. Not only are they colorful but also come soaked in the rich history of one of the greatest players to ever step foot on the hardwoods.
