Villa Traxx, Vol .003

Uplifting and catchy, don’t miss this week’s playlist full of smooth hip-hop.

In this week’s playlist, the theme revolves around songs that make you feel warm on the inside and at-ease on the outside. If you needed a pick-me-up, you’ve come to the right place.

.003 | Feel Good

The Ways x Khalid & Swae Lee

The first couple of seconds are enough to convince me a commercial is about to start, yet Khalid’s gracious voice says otherwise. As soon as those drums kick in, we are in for a treat. Accompanied by Swae Lee and a Kendrick Lamar cameo, it doesn’t get better than this. Personally, this is my favorite song from Black Panther: The Album. After a couple listens, it’ll be yours too.

Herside Story x GoldLink & Hare Squead

If you wanted to listen to two very distinct voices, this is the right track for you. GoldLink’s flow perfectly balances Jessy Rose’s contagious hook to create an illustrious piece of art. You’ll be tapping your fingers and humming along in no time.

Anita x Smino

Smino refines his craft in this beautiful masterpiece. With a suave play on the words Anita and I need her, Smino clearly brings his A-game.  This track is as sweet as the Godiva mentioned in that hook.

Jennifer x Trinidad Cardona

This song first started off as a viral social media post of Trinidad Cardona singing about a girl named Jennifer. As soon as you see him sing it live, you can understand why he went ahead and produced this single. Keep mesmerizing us, we want more! (If you aren’t bobbing your head to this, get on it!)

i x  Kendrick Lamar

K-Dot is one of the most talented artists of his generation, if not, all time. Adding his own style to a classic tune, Kendrick inspires listeners to express themselves. By the time you’re done listening to this, you’ll be yelling “I love myself!” at the top of your lungs.

Baba x Aminé

Known for his cheery, upbeat music, Aminé hits the mark once again with this song. The first few lyrics are exactly what this song does to you: I was down, but I’m really lit right now. Keep that positive energy going!

Retro [ROUGH] x Childish Gambino

Multitalented artist, comedian, and actor Donald Glover definitely has the Midas touch. This dude can sing, rap, and do about everything in between. With a track like this, you can’t help but feel satisfied at that bouncy melody. Best part of the song? The outro.

Chilli Peppers (feat. Majid Jordan) x Roy Woods

When you think of OVO, the first thing that comes to mind is Toronto’s very own 6 God. However, the talents of Majid Jordan and Roy Woods should put you on their music, too. Paying homage to the Red Hot Chili Peppers, the lively sound and melodious voices go hand in hand.

LOVE. FEAT. ZACARI. x Kendrick Lamar

7 seconds… That’s how long you have to listen to this to know this is truly treasure. Zacari steals the show with the voice of an angel, singing as if he were on cloud nine.  We already know of Kung Fu Kenny’s abilities, so having an additional talent just adds on to this gem.

Closing off our playlist in style. With such a wavy melody, X surprises us by showcasing a whole new side of him — a side full of vulnerability that highlights his artistry. Although he is known for his aggressive rap style, we want more of this stuff from him. You can just feel the vibes from this track.
