Hosted by SNL shero and rock star comedian herself, Tina Fey, gave a hilarious monologue that featured a surprise star studded cameo of celebrities like Chris Rock, Fred Armisen, Robert De Niro, Jerry Seinfeld, Benedict Cumberbatch, Tracy Morgan and Anne Hathaway.
The show poked fun at the reliance on well-known actors to make cameos during performances, spotlighting less time on the cast members.
In addition to Glover’s appearance, Nicki Minaj also appeared as musical guest – performing her songs “Chin-Li” and Playboi Carti’s Die Lit track “Poke It Out.” For the latter, she brought out the Atlanta rapper on stage to perform the track with her.
In addition, Tina went on to perform skits dedicated to her major successful Broadway Musical play Mean Girls, reprises her old on-air portrayal of Sarah Palin, and even performed a 70’s disco women empowerment music video alongside Kate McKinnon, Aidy Bryant and Nicki Minaj.
Saturday was also a huge historical moment in British Royalty that celebrated the marital union between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. SNL wasted no time featuring a sketch about the royal wedding only hours later. Can we all give major props to the writers and costume department that threw together all the distinctive looks and performances! The sketch offered a guide tour of the posh reception through Prince Harry and a “camera” where he interviewed the distinguished guests.
To close up with ‘Weekend Updates’ was the breakout star himself, Bishop Michael Curry, played by Keenan Thompson. In the real live royal wedding, American Episcopal bishop Curry gave a rather lengthy speech on the power of love. in a desk side impression, Thompson joined Che and his co-host, Colin Jost, with an impression of Curry that he must have put together in just a few hours.
