Ariana Grande stepped into studio 6-B in Rockefeller Plaza on Tuesday to co-host alongside Jimmy Fallon during The Tonight Show. Ready to have fun, Grande participated in various skits, surprised fans as they sang her new single, and played the musical genre challenge, but most importantly she will spill all the tea on her upcoming album!
For roughly one year, Grande has taken a bit of a hiatus from music after the tragic bombing at the Manchester Area in the United Kingdom. On May 22, 2017, while fans withdrew from the arena and into the arena’s foyer to exit after Grande’s “Dangerous Woman Tour” a suicide bomber triggered a man-made explosive filled with shrapnel, killing twenty-three people and injuring over 500. While Grande did speak on the tragedy in a written released statement, she understandably decided not to do any interviews regarding the events.
The Tonight Show would be her first interview appearance since the tragedy. Although she still did not speak publicly on the event Grande would become noticeably emotional, fighting back tears as Fallon read an exert from her statement early last year:
“We won’t let hate win, our response to this violence must be to help each other, to love more, to sing louder and to live more kindly and generously than we did before.”
For Grande it would seem that she is reconnecting with music, explaining that her video for her new single “No Tears Left To Cry” is symbolic as she takes off a replica of her face. “I’m taking off one chapter and putting on another,” said Grande to Fallon.
The album, being released this summer, is projected for July 20th and will be called “Sweetener”. “Sweetener”, explained by Grande, was chosen as a representation of bringing light to those who need it and uplifting people, certainly fitting for Grande’s bubbly personality. Be sure to look out for production credits from the great Pharrell as well.
Although Grande has gone through so much heartache in the past year she continues to show a degree of poise, as well as a sense of maturity and growth. Her fans clearly ready for her new album considering the “No Tears Left To Cry” video has reached over 110 million views in under 15 days!
Grande has a lot in store musically in the next few months and has promised to check in with fans on the 20th of each month until the release of the album. This month be sure to check out Grande as she performs at the Billboard Awards and gain excitement for the soft-spoken pop star to blow the roof off with her soaring voice.
