Bay Area rapper Saweetie got the hooks and she’s focused. Her new EP is out now!
Saweetie, a name newly introduced to rap, has become an overnight success after her one minute freestyle “ICY GRL” went viral on Instagram and Twitter. The freestyle expresses a lavish lifestyle of her own, all while depositing confidence, sex appeal, and luxury into women worldwide.
The self-proclaimed “ICY GRL” has dreamt of rapping since the age of 14; 10 years later, she has signed to Warner Brothers Entertainment and dropped her first EP titled “High Maintenance” all within one year. The 9 track/22 minute project has impressed fans giving them various braggadocios anthems just in time to kick off the spring.
Despite having a critical freestyle performance on Hot 97 roughly one month ago, Saweetie has continued to be persistent in calling herself a “rapper rapper”, meaning she is pursuing a lyrical career. Aside from her two singles, “ICY GRL” and “High Maintenance”, “B.A.N.” is a specific track to display her rapping ability, but this song, along with others, will undoubtedly come off light to critics.
Although this project doesn’t compete with many female rappers on a lyrical level, like Remy Ma and Cardi B, Saweetie definitely displays future promise especially with her putting to rest various uncertainties prior to the release. “High Maintenance” has highlighted Saweetie’s ability to make complete songs, not only freestyles, with exceedingly catchy hooks and choruses; a great example is track three, “Agua”. She has targeted her audience well and worked hard to become a storyteller; check out the track titled “23” for a fluid yet uptempo experience.
Saweetie has plenty of time to grow in the industry, she is brand new to the game yet holding her own with the utmost amount of poise like her professional counterparts. Saweetie’s confidence in her skin along with her ability is contagious. If she is able to continue working on her craft diligently her career will undoubtedly skyrocket.
