Year of Air | A Look Back at Nike Air Force 1 in 2017

It’s been one hell of a year for the Nike brand, especially for its most coveted silhouette—the Air Force 1. Nike celebrated the 35th anniversary of its Air Force 1 with many unforgettable moments this year. From A-list collaborations with Off-White and Travis Scott to launching nostalgia-worthy campaigns, this cult-status sneaker brand went all out.

Alongside these hyped collabs launched some pretty dope footwear and apparel. During the unveil of the Air Force 1 Low NBA campaign, we got to see some of our old favorite return from the Nike archives. Nike also hosted a special daylong event dubbed The Ones, paying homage to the Air Force 1 by bringing along pieces from the Air Force 1 archive, offering shoe customizations for attendees that day.

Air Force 1 Low NBA Campaign

The Air Force 1, today, is an icon in sneaker and pop culture. With its groundbreaking introduction to new Nike Air technology and unforgettable Swoosh logo, the AF 1 is truly a FORCE to be reckoned with.

“Force Is Female” Campaign

Nike launched the “Force is Female” campaign in effort to champion girl power and celebrate those bold women who are brave and kicking ass and creating a lane for other girls to do the same. The girl power didn’t stop there. The Swoosh featured budding female photogeapher, Ro.lexx and model/actress Ruby Rose as their leading ladies. The campaign also featured some pretty anticipated kicks.

Nike x Off-White Collab

This collaboration hit the market later this year and became an instant sell-out! Off-White designer and founder, Virgil Abloh, is all about expression and altering a product. “The Air Force 1 isn’t iconic in just any color, they’re iconic in one: white. White is the theme for this third Air Force 1, looking at the cultural context of the white on white — editing it, but not editing it too far to where it becomes something else.”
